The classic movie Fried Green Tomatoes launched in 1991 based on the novel with the same name is getting a series adaptation at NBC channel very soon. The book was written by Fannie Flagg – who also was responsible for the scripts of the acclaimed movie adaptation.
The plot series is described as a modernisation of the story which will be showing the saga of the descendants of the main characters from the original material.
The novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe was published in 1987 and it focuses on the friendship between middle-aged housewife Evelyn Couch and an elderly woman named Ninny Threadgoode, along with Ninny’s stories of her youth. The story also touches on themes of aging, racism, lesbianism, and family.
Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy, Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary-Louise Parker, and Cicely Tyson starred the film which was a hit, and ended up nominated for two academy awards: Best Supporting Actress for Jessica Tandy, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
